Alma Meretoja (b. 2007) is a composer and pianist from Turku, Finland. She completed her advanced studies at the Turku Conservatory in the spring of 2026 under the guidance of Maria Männikkö and Ilari Hongisto. In August 2026, she began her composition studies at the Sibelius-Academy in Helsinki with Matthew Whittall.
Meretoja’s imaginative musical language combines, among other influences, impressionistic colour with neo-Romantic expressivity, all within an open-minded postmodern outlook. A central theme in her music is the search for the other-worldly and the ineffable. Her works have been performed at numerous events and they have been successful in competitions, such as the Turku Conservatory Composition Competition in 2025 and the Zett Emm Open Competition in Cologne in 2026. Meretoja’s first piano concerto Ikara was premiered in April 2026, with the composer herself as soloist.
